Common terms used when discussing cable protection and connection components.
The internal passage of a tube or fitting. Confirm the usable bore and any restriction at the ends.
Flexible Metal ConduitThe outside dimension of a circular cable or tube. This differs from conductor area and from mounting thread size.
Connectors & Cable GlandsA size designation used to identify a product range. It is not always the measured bore or outside diameter.
Flexible Metal ConduitThe radius of the curved cable or conduit route. The applicable minimum depends on the selected product and static or moving duty.
Flexible Metal ConduitA route that stays in place during normal operation, even if bending is needed during installation.
Plastic Conduit, Hose & SleevingA route that repeatedly bends, travels or twists during operation. It requires an application-specific movement assessment.
Plastic Conduit, Hose & SleevingThe specified tubing bore before heat recovery. It must accommodate the feature over which the tubing is installed.
Heat Shrink TubingThe specified tubing diameter after recovery under defined conditions. Compare it with the smallest section to be covered.
Heat Shrink TubingThe relationship between expanded and fully recovered dimensions of heat shrink tubing. It does not define all other performance properties.
Heat Shrink TubingHeat shrink tubing without a separate adhesive lining. The specific grade determines its intended performance.
Heat Shrink TubingHeat shrink tubing with an internal adhesive layer intended to bond to suitable surfaces during recovery.
Heat Shrink TubingA change in tubing length during recovery. Account for the selected product value when defining cut length.
Heat Shrink TubingThe cable outside-diameter range accommodated by a particular gland or seal configuration.
Connectors & Cable GlandsThe specification of the mounting thread, including the thread system and relevant dimensions. It is separate from cable clamping range.
Connectors & Cable GlandsA classification concerning entry of solids and water under specified tests. Confirm the complete installation and stated conditions.
Connectors & Cable GlandsA method of reducing transmission of pulling force to an electrical connection. Confirm the selected component and assembly requirements.
Connectors & Cable GlandsThe area of conductive metal. For copper braid it is not simply the external width multiplied by overall thickness.
Copper Braid & Flexible ConnectionsCopper with a tin coating. Finish selection is separate from conductor size and complete connection performance.
Copper Braid & Flexible ConnectionsThe end connection of a cable, conduit or braid, including the geometry required to join it to another component.
Copper Braid & Flexible ConnectionsThe interior space available for conductors after accounting for the duct profile, walls and cover arrangement.
Wiring Duct & Cable TrunkingThe ability of a positionable tube assembly to retain an accessory at an intended reach and orientation.
Gooseneck TubesThe outside envelope of a cable bundle that a tie or routing component must accommodate.
Cable TiesA cable-tie performance value measured under specified test conditions. It is distinct from an installation tension setting.
Cable TiesA request to supply to a specified design or develop a configuration around agreed requirements. Scope is confirmed in the quotation.
